Global Evaluation Initiative (GEI) and the UNDP Independent Evaluation Office (IEO) are hosting a virtual event on May 3, 2023 (12:30pm UTC), to discuss the progress made in strengthening national evaluation systems and to explore what gender-responsive and climate-informed evaluation systems look like.

The National Evaluation Capacities (NEC) Conference held in Turin, Italy in October 2022 set forth the Turin Agenda, a call to action for strengthening national evaluation systems to generate better evidence to support policies that improve people's lives. Central to this effort is the need to prioritize gender equality, social inclusion, and environmental sustainability. Six months later, the Global Evaluation Initiative (GEI) and the UNDP Independent Evaluation Office (IEO) are hosting a virtual event on May 3, 2023, to discuss the progress made in strengthening national evaluation systems and to explore what gender-responsive and climate-informed evaluation systems look like.

The Turin Agenda recognizes that climate change disproportionately affects vulnerable nations and populations who are least able to cope with its negative impacts. To address this, national evaluation systems need to consider the potential, current, and projected impact of policies and programs on climate and ecosystems, and work towards avoiding, mitigating, and addressing these existential crises that affect our planet and human development. The event will feature discussions on climate-informed evaluation systems, including examples from different countries that can serve as inspiration for others.

The event will also focus on gender- and inclusion-responsive evaluation systems as emphasized by the Turin Agenda. Despite progress toward gender equality, there have been setbacks due to multiple crises in recent years. Many evaluations and evaluation systems only include sex-disaggregated data, and there is a need for truly gender-responsive and inclusive national evaluation systems. The event will feature discussions on practical steps that can be taken to foster such systems, including insights from experts in the field and experiences from different countries.

The discussions will also center around how to bring gender-responsive, inclusion-responsive, and climate-informed evaluation systems together, and what countries need to make this happen. The role of the Global Evaluation Initiative in supporting these efforts will also be explored. The event aims to generate meaningful discussions, share knowledge, and identify concrete steps that can be taken to advance the Turin Agenda and strengthen national evaluation systems.

NEC+6 will serve as a platform for knowledge sharing, collaboration, and action toward realizing the vision of resilient, agile, flexible, adaptable, and forward-looking national evaluation systems that contribute to sustainable development and better lives for all. Interested individuals can register for the event here to join the discussions and contribute to this important global agenda.
