Development projects share some similarities with other types of projects, but they also present unique challenges for the managers and organizations that undertake them. Managing project information systems effectively is one of the most critical.
This course provides a process-based approach to managing development project information. Students will gain a clear understanding of the defining characteristics of information in development projects and learn practical tools, techniques, and best practices to manage it effectively.
Over a period of three weeks, students will work through activities and exercises designed to meet the learning objectives. Completing the assigned work requires approximately one hour per day. The course is fully asynchronous, with materials, lectures, tests, and assignments accessible at any time. Students are given a timeframe to complete the assigned activities, participate in discussion forums, and submit exercises to receive a grade.
Upon successful completion of the course, students will:
- understand the information management processes and information life cycle
- know the steps required to plan and manage project information
- gain a better understanding of how a project management information system (PMIS) can enhance the quality of project reports and decisions
- have the confidence to apply the principles of information management in their organization or project
- be able to develop an effective project information management plan
