Regression Discontinuity Design (RDD) is a quasi-experimental evaluation option that measures the impact of an intervention, or treatment, by applying a treatment assignment mechanism based on a continuous eligibility index which is a variable with a continuous distribution.

A time series is a collection of observations of well-defined data items obtained through repeated measurements over time. Time series descriptions separate time components in terms of trends (long-term direction), seasonal variation (systematic, calendar-related movements) and irregular cycles (unsystematic, short-term fluctuations). Time series are frequently plotted on line charts or bar charts.

Word clouds or tag clouds are graphical representations of word frequency that give greater prominence to words that appear more frequently in a source text. The larger the word in the visual the more common the word was in the document(s). This type of visualization can assist evaluators with exploratory textual analysis by identifying words that frequently appear in a set of interviews, documents, or other text. It can also be used for communicating the most salient points or themes in the reporting stage.

Thematic coding is a form of qualitative analysis which involves recording or identifying passages of text or images that are linked by a common theme or idea allowing you to index the text into categories and therefore establish a “framework of thematic ideas about it” (Gibbs 2007).

Maps will typically display one data variable or indicator, often using colour coding to indicate the density, frequency, or percentage in a given region, allowing quick comparison between regions. Colour coding can also be used to show changes over time (e.g. red for regions where an indicator got worse between two specific years, blue for areas where an improvement was seen and so on). Other information can be overlaid on the map, for example specific sites (e.g. hospitals or distribution centers) and text.

Demographic mapping is a way of using GIS (global information system) mapping technology to show data on population characteristics by region or geographic area. Many demographic maps use interactive technology, allowing users to customize the data to their needs, to view changes over time or select regions for comparison.
