UK Evaluation Society (UKES) 2015 Conference

The UK Evaluation Society's 2015 conference aims to examine the relationship between evaluation and the influence it has on programme/policy development and identify the ways in which it contributes to or is affected by innovation, inclusion and impact:

  • Innovation – developing new approaches or methods for both doing and using evaluation, adapting new technologies, challenging traditional thinking 
  • Inclusion –identifying and working with stakeholders, embracing diversity, being transparent and ethical, using participatory processes 
  • Impact– making a difference, discovering unintended consequences, supporting decision-making at all levels in society.

In particular, we wish to consider the role of civil society and private sector organisations in evaluation and how to facilitate their effective involvement in the policy and programme cycle - from design to implementation to evaluation and beyond.

2015 has been declared as the International Year of Evaluation (EvalYear). The aim of the initiative is to advocate and promote evaluation and evidence-based policy making at international, regional, national and local levels. It is expected to be a catalyst for enhancing the role of monitoring and evaluation in good governance for equitable and sustainable human development. Two key features of EvalYear are inclusion (where everyone has a role to play: the private and voluntary sectors, governments, international partners, academia, and individuals) and innovation at many levels: methods of engagement and capacity building, peer-to-peer exchanges, use of technology for communications and scale up, and involvement of new partners. By considering these two elements in its 2015 Conference, UKES will also contribute to this wider international effort and broaden its impact.

The conference will comprise presentations from keynote speakers, panel discussions and interactive plenary sessions, together with parallel sessions for which participants from across both the international and UK evaluation community will be invited to submit abstracts. There will also be an opportunity for participants to display posters.
