EvalYear: UNEG EvalWeek 9 - 13 March, 2015

The UN Evaluation Group (UNEG) has been busy celebrating their EvalWeek from the 9th to the 13th of March. Here are three of the ways they celebrated:
Lighting the Evaluation Torch for EvalYear
United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon officially lit the Evaluation Torch to celebrate EvalYear. In his speech, Ban Ki-Moon said, "I welcome the designation of 2015 as the International Year of Evaluation -- the same year in which the United Nations marks its 70th anniversary and will take momentous decisions about our future prosperity, safety and well-being. Evaluation everywhere, and at every level, will play a key role in implementing the new development agenda."
High-level Panel Event: "Bridge to a BetterWorld - Evaluation at the Service of the Post-2015 Agenda"
Held on the 9th of March and livestreamed around the world, this event highlighted the UN resolution on national evaluation capacity development and the International Year of Evaluation. The ways in which evaluation capacity building can empower countries was discussed, particularly in relation to the adoption of appropriate, effective and responsive developmental policies and programmes.
