This case study discusses the combination of the Qualitative Impact Assessment Protocol (QuIP) and Randomised Control Trial (RCT) approaches in the evaluation of Concern Worldwide's "Graduation" programme.
The programme was a 22-month intervention aimed at addressing extreme poverty in Malawi via cash transfers and gender training. It provided consumption support, skills training, access to financial services, and a larger capital transfer.
The research focused on the role of gender in the Graduation model, incorporating three distinct treatment arms and utilising both RCT and QuIP methodologies to evaluate the impact, especially concerning income generation, intrahousehold relationships, and gender dynamics.
The case study provides background to the project, discusses why QuIP was used in conjunction with RCT, and presents the findings of the evaluation.
