How to do cross tabulations

This webpage provides basic instructions on doing cross tabulations effectively.

"One of the basic operations of statistical analysis is to determine the frequency of an action or characteristic occurring in a population. Maybe you want to know how many times per week people at your job eat out, or how many of them are male or female. But sometimes the information we want is a bit more complex. What if you want to know how many of the women at your job eat out more than three times a week? This involves analyzing two variables (gender and frequency of eating out) at the same time. To get this information you will need to perform a cross tabulation (sometimes called a crosstab or a contingency table." (Frazier, 2012)
