BetterEvaluation COVID-19 Statement

Close up of eye with rainbow arcing across face

The COVID-19 pandemic is rapidly transforming our world: Individuals, communities and organisations are facing enormous challenges and uncertainty.

Limited resources have been further stretched by the climate crisis and unprecedented natural disasters. These global challenges put the Sustainable Development Goals at risk and threaten the well-being of people and the planet. At BetterEvaluation we believe we have a significant role to play in responding to this unfolding situation.

The COVID-19 pandemic is rapidly transforming our world.  Individuals, communities and organisations are facing enormous challenges and uncertainty. Limited resources have been further stretched by the climate crisis and unprecedented natural disasters. These global challenges put the Sustainable Development Goals at risk and threaten the well-being of people and the planet. At BetterEvaluation we believe we have a significant role to play in responding to this unfolding situation.

We work to support better evaluation globally. Good evaluation helps people identify the information they need and make sense of it.  It helps inform decisions about what to do and how to improve results. Good evaluation is essential to guide the best use of resources and to ensure accountability and learning. During this pandemic and in the post-pandemic world our work is more important than ever.

Here’s how we are responding:

  • We are working remotely to ensure the safety of our staff and community
  • We are finalizing user experience improvements to our website to make it easier to find relevant information
  • We are creating and curating additional content to address the current context including:
    • real-time evaluation
    • evaluation for adaptive management
    • addressing equity in evaluation
    • evaluation for accountability and resource allocation
    • ways of doing evaluation within physical distancing constraints
    • ways of working effectively online
    • resources relating to evaluation in the COVID19 pandemic
  • We are continuing existing partnerships and capacity strengthening projects, adapting as needed
  • We are exploring ways we can contribute to specific efforts to tackle these challenges locally and globally

We will continue to work collaboratively to create, share and support the use of knowledge about evaluation. We will draw on the experiences of our board, staff, and partners in capacity strengthening in health crises and natural disasters.

We remain strongly committed to using our strengths in evaluation to build a better world, particularly for marginalised groups and those worst affected by the current crises.
