This report analyses nurse workforce data from 2005 and concludes that the lack of interest in nursing may have been temporary, mainly confined to young people choosing their first career.
"In addition to analyzing these trends, we forecast the future age and supply of RN full-time-equivalents (FTEs), using a forecasting model developed several years ago that was the basis for some of the first projections of the coming nurse shortage. These new forecasts suggest that our prior projections of the supply of RNs in 2020 were too pessimistic." (Auerbach, Buerhaus & Staiger, 2007)
